About Course

This 21-hour course specifies the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for EC educators to communicate effectively with families and create opportunities to promote and strengthen positive home-centre partnerships on the care and development of young children, in line with their centre’s beliefs, efforts and curriculum.

 

Learners will acquire a good grounding of the roles between the centre and families to ensure children’s wellbeing and learning, and gain strategies to involve families for a sustained partnership. Learners will also learn about the various community services available for families in need, and refer them to the relevant services.

 

Note: This course will be conducted via online learning until further notice.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Communicate positively with families on an ongoing basis.

  • Manage challenging conversations with parents about their child’s learning and development.

  • Collaborate with families about their children’s needs and concerns.

  • Identify various community services for families in need.

  • Respect families’ cultural values and parenting styles.

Entry Requirements

This course is for individuals who meet the following criteria:   

  • Be ECDA-certified as EY1/EY2 educarer or L1/L2 teacher.

  • Currently employed in a preschool registered or licensed with ECDA.

Course Assessment Requirements

Applicants are required to observe and implement an activity with a child/small group of children. Should you have concerns about meeting this assessment requirement due to school holidays, you may consider alternative intakes that do not fall within the holiday period.

Upon Graduation

Upon completion of the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Attainment from the National Institute of Early Childhood Development (NIEC) and Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).
