About Course

This course was formerly known as: Understanding and Supporting the Social Emotional Development of Young Children Between Birth and 3 Years Old.

 

This course emphasises the importance of understanding and promoting social emotional developmental concepts along the milestones of children aged 3 years and below that will help learners examine and apply the appropriate tools and strategies to monitor and support the social emotional development in young children. Learners will also acquire skills to establish collaborative partnerships with parents to support the social and emotional development in very young children.

 

Note: This course will be conducted via online learning until further notice.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Recognise and understand important developmental concepts such as emergence of self-awareness, beginning of emotional self-regulation and understanding and responding to the emotions of others.

  • Enhance knowledge and skills to understand and support the social emotional development in children aged 3 years and below.

  • Develop appropriate strategies to support the social and emotional development of children aged 3 years and below.  

  • Utilise tools and strategies to monitor and evaluate classroom routines and practices for the development of young children’s social emotional well-being.  

  • Establish a collaborative relationship with parents in supporting the social emotional development of children aged 3 years and below.

Entry Requirements

  • Be ECDA-certified as EY1/ EY2 educarers.

  • Currently employed in a preschool registered or licensed with ECDA.

Course Assessment Requirements

Applicants are required to observe and implement an activity with a child/small group of children. Should you have concerns about meeting this assessment requirement due to school holidays, you may consider alternative intakes that do not fall within the holiday period.

Upon Completion

Upon completion of the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Attainment from the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).
