NIEC is the national training institute set up by the Ministry of Education for early childhood (EC) educators. The establishment of NIEC is part of the Government’s efforts to uplift the profession.

With the growing demand for EC services in Singapore, NIEC is well placed to meet the increasing need for quality teachers and educators to nurture young children. As EC practitioners and experts, we seek to lead the way in creating robust training systems and programmes for EC educators.

  1. We have the EC capabilities to provide a full range of full certification and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses for EC educators at every stage of their career.

  1. Our students are part of the NIEC fraternity and enjoy cross-campus learning opportunities. Additionally, PET students have dual-identity - they are students of both NIEC and the poly/ITE they are in.

  2. NIEC provides quality training for early childhood educators defined by:
    • Highly qualified faculty with knowledge in diverse areas related to early childhood
    • Practice-oriented learning experiences in authentic environments beyond the classroom
    • A robust curriculum that is informed by national direction and specialist input in various EC areas

  3. We are building our EC capabilities and expertise. Our faculty is continuously being developed to ensure their knowledge and skills remain current and relevant, especially in the areas of:
    • Birth to 3
    • Inclusive Practices
    • Mother Tongue Languages
    • Outdoor Learning
    • Personal Development/Professional Growth
    • Sectoral Leadership

Additionally, we develop courses to support ECDA’s focus areas in Classroom Management and Working with Families.

  4. We work closely with the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) and operators to ensure that our training reflects latest EC practices and meets the sector’s evolving needs.

  5. Through our training, we develop confident and competent EC educators who are work-ready, self-directed and reflective practitioners.
