Effective Speech for Infant and Early Years Educators

About Course

In this course, learners will understand the importance of proper speech within the early childhood context, identify aspects of speech production and development, mispronounced sounds, common spoken grammar errors, speech errors related to pitch, stress and intonation. They will also learn to apply strategies in overcoming common errors in speech and techniques in modeling proper spoken grammar to children. This provides a strong base for interaction with infants and toddlers.

This course was formerly known as Effective Speech for Educarers.

Note: This course will be conducted via online learning.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • identify speech physiology and motor control in the production of voice;
  • apply the various speech strategies, methods, and application of basic phonemic awareness and phonology strategies for self-development; and
  • apply appropriate methods and strategies for proper pronunciation and spoken grammar within the context of the infant and toddler learning environment through simulated scenarios of interactions.
Upon Completion

Upon completion of the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Attainment from the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).

Entry Requirements

This course is for individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Have completed an ECDA-recognised certificate or diploma in early childhood care and education.
  • Be ECDA-certified as L1 teacher.
  • Currently employed in a childcare centre (with infant care) registered or licensed with ECDA.
