The government has implemented initiatives to support the growth of the sector, creating opportunities for both career and educational progression. During the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA)’s Early Childhood Celebrations 2024, Minister for Social and Family Development, Masagos Zulkifli shared that close to 40,000 new infant and childcare places will be developed from 2025 to 2029 (November 2024, ECDA). This expansion would mean you can enjoy employment opportunities and job security in the sector.

**Full-time preschool educators who graduate from NIEC’s pre-employment diploma programmes can expect a starting salary of $3,200.

Our Courses

We conduct our early childhood courses in collaboration with Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College Central, Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) and Temasek Polytechnic (TP). This means that you get to be a student of both NIEC and your chosen ITE or Polytechnic.

Regardless of which campus you choose, you will receive the same quality training and will graduate with a certification/diploma recognised by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).

My love for the Tamil language and motivation to nurture children who embrace the Tamil culture and values inspired me to join early childhood education. The theoretical knowledge acquired at NIEC (NP) helped me greatly in implementing effective classroom management strategies. During my internship, I’ve used it as a guide to tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of every child.

During my time at NIEC, I’ve had the privilege of learning from supportive and dedicated lecturers who guided me in finding my footing in the early childhood sector. The theory and hands-on practicum experiences helped me understand the importance of building meaningful relationships with young children.

At NIEC (NP), the lecturers always make classes engaging and took the time to guide us. I also had the chance to connect with both local and international early childhood educators, such as when I represented NIEC at EduTECH Asia 2024. Teaching children is incredibly rewarding as their purity, creativity, and curiosity make it a true joy. At NIEC (ITE), I really enjoyed learning about developmental milestones and effective teaching methods, which I know will be valuable in my future career. One of my most memorable experiences was teaching classrooms full of children and engaging in various activities with them. For anyone considering a course in early childhood education, I highly recommend it as it’s both fun and fulfilling!

Witnessing my secondary school teachers' dedication and passion for teaching inspired me to make a positive impact on children's lives. During my time at NIEC (ITE), I actively participated in various events such as the NIEC (ITE) Bonding Day and the National Library Board’s Stories Come Alive where I engaged with children and forged connections within the industry. My internship allowed me to gain insight into the responsibilities of a preschool educator, building my confidence and skills in supporting children’s holistic development.

At NIEC (TP), I was fortunate to meet experienced and supportive mentors who shaped my journey in EC education. Building meaningful connections with children has been incredibly rewarding for me. At the start of my 6-month internship, I recall how the children were initially shy but gradually became more comfortable around me. They even started to look forward to school because of our bond! This experience highlighted the importance of building trust and rapport with children which creates a positive and engaging learning environment.
