Fi-Fai-Fonik: Learning Phonics in Malay through Play
Fi-Fai-Fonik: Learning Phonics in Malay through Play
About Course
Fi-Fai-Fonik, is a creative approach to introduce Malay phonics through a holistic blending of authentic experiences by the learner. In this workshop, multimodal forms that diversify the possibilities for children to construct or express meanings and their understanding will be explored.
For example, using a dance to illustrate the words of the same initial letter (bodily kinesthetic/ musical intelligence) or a treasure hunt map to find the words belonging to a letter (spatial intelligence). Consequently, drawing inspiration from the classic folktale, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, Fi-Fai-Fonik’s strategies seek to
challenge the child to chart and take control of their own learning of phonics, moving away from traditional rote learning to become independent learners.
Note: This course will be conducted face-to-face.
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Recognise the diverse learning styles of children in order to implement a creative phonics lesson that motivates children to learn Malay.
- Assess appropriate information from case studies to create multimodal projects that enhances pupil’s learning experience.
Upon completion of the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Attainment from the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).
