Early childhood education in Singapore (Mrs Loke-Yeo Teck Yong, Director & Chief Executive Officer, National Institute of Early Childhood Development)

NIEC Director & CEO, Mrs Loke-Yeo Teck Yong, was recently featured on CNA938, in a radio segment hosted by Susan Ng. Mrs Loke shared insights on the evolution of early childhood education in Singapore, highlighting the transition from privatised services to government oversight under ECDA. She emphasised how the establishment of NIEC was a significant step in providing quality training for early childhood educators, underlining the importance of early education in lifelong learning. Over the years, NIEC has become a key training facility, enhancing educators’ skills and offering leadership training to support career advancement.

Mrs Loke also spoke about NIEC’s upcoming conference to celebrate the achievements of educators who have trained with NIEC over the past five years. Additionally, the conference also offers opportunities for networking and sharing of innovative teaching methods. She concluded by expressing her hope for the future of early childhood education in Singapore, expressing a desire to further align NIEC with educators’ needs and to strengthen leadership development and networking opportunities.
