Empowering Today Together: How Children Benefit When Empowered Parents and Educators Work in Sync—Power of Design
ECDA’s Beanstalk Issue 44 (Jul - Sep 2024)
The article explores the interconnected roles of parents and early childhood educators in promoting children’s development and well-being. Five contributors—two parents, two preschool educators, and an early childhood specialist—share their views on how educators can empower one another and engage parents as active partners in their children’s learning.
Dr Cynthia Tan, an ECDA fellow and Assistant Director of the Faculty and Leadership Development (FLD) division at NIEC, highlights the importance of encouraging adults to “pass the power” to infants and toddlers by acknowledging the capabilities, intentions, and thoughts of young children, as well as recognising opportunities to empower them in their learning processes. She stresses the need to create supportive environments with meaningful resources and to foster diverse communication methods, both verbal and non-verbal, to enhance children’s learning experiences.
