[NEW] Practitioner Inquiry: Reflective Practice in Action

[NEW] Practitioner Inquiry: Reflective Practice in Action

About Course

This course equips early childhood professionals with the knowledge and practical skills to carry out Practitioner Inquiry (PI) within their own centres. Participants will be guided through each stage of the Action Research Cycle—Plan, Act, Observe, and Reflect—and supported in identifying a specific problem of practice, formulating inquiry questions, and designing an actionable inquiry plan. Working collaboratively with colleagues from the same centre, they will collect and interpret classroom data using developmentally appropriate tools such as observations, learning stories, and documentation. By the end of the course, participants will present their inquiry findings and propose sustainable improvements grounded in real-world classroom experiences. This course emphasises reflective thinking, ethical data use, and team-based inquiry to strengthen practice and enhance outcomes for children.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • apply the principles of Practitioner Inquiry (PI) in the early childhood (EC) context;
  • implement the stages of the PI cycle;
  • develop meaningful inquiry questions relevant to their practice;
  • explore data collection and analysis methods suitable for the EC setting, and
  • reflect on inquiry findings to inform practice and share insights.
