Leadership Series: Winning the Hearts and Minds of Teachers and Parents (WHMT)
Leadership Series: Winning the Hearts and Minds of Teachers and Parents (WHMT)
About Course
This course provides leaders with a deeper awareness of the importance of relationships for effective leadership. The Core Theory of Success (Kim, 1997) and the 5 levels of Leadership (Maxwell 2016) and examples of how these theories are used, will be discussed to illustrate the importance of relationships. The skill segment of this course focuses on the concept of personal mastery, a continual process of self-learning and reflexivity, leveraging on Covey’s Seven Habits of Leadership and E. Schein’s Humble Inquiry.
Learners will apply these theories and skills to authentic cases from their own centres and reflect on their own mindsets, the structures and processes that they have put in place at their centres, their leadership practices, to arrive at fresh perspectives on their encounters with colleagues and parents. Participants will also discuss cases that will allow them to apply the theories and skills taught in this course.
Note: This course will be conducted face-to-face.
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- understand the importance of relationships in leadership and various contributing factors;
- distil a set of key principles and strategies for building relationships with teachers and parents;
- understand the need for coherence of their values, mindsets, structures and skills in relating with people, including personal mastery;
- demonstrate social cultural sensitivity in communication;
- apply Steven Covey’s 7 Habits of Effective People and Edgar Schein’s Humble Inquiry; and
- develop a plan to build the relationships of the ‘class team’
Upon completion of the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Attainment from the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).
