Storytelling for a Child Audience (Malay)

About Course

Storytelling is a powerful tool to engage children. During storytelling, both the teller and audience actively create images derived from meanings associated with the words, gestures and sounds made. Coupled with simple props and active participation, young audiences stand to gain a wide range of benefits especially in the areas of language comprehension, oracy and listening. In this course, learners will be introduced to storytelling techniques with tangrams and puppets. Tips and techniques for participatory and cumulative story will also be shared. Learners will be able to demonstrate storytelling strategies for preschool audience.

Note: This course will be conducted face-to-face.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • create an original story using tangrams for preschool audience;
  • effectively use puppets for engaging children in storytelling;
  • create an original story using a cumulative approach for preschool audience; and
  • demonstrate application of storytelling strategies for preschool audience.
Upon Completion

Upon completion of the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Attainment from the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).

Entry Requirements

This course is for individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • have completed an ECDA-recognised certificate or diploma in early childhood care and education;
  • be ECDA-certified as an EY2/L1/L2 teacher; and
  • currently employed in a childcare centre registered or licensed with ECDA.
