Supporting Social and Emotional Development of Preschoolers

Supporting Social and Emotional Development of Preschoolers

About Course

This course was formerly known as “Understanding and Supporting the Social Emotional Development in Young Children Between 4-6 Years Old”.

This course equips learners with enhanced knowledge and skills to analyse children’s social skills and emotional development as well as related issues. This analysis enables learners to differentiate and adapt appropriate strategies to manage and support children of diverse social skills and emotional development needs in the classroom.

Learners will learn the Model of Social Competence in Early Childhood Environment and apply it to support children in interacting appropriately with others, even during difficult situations so that they are less likely engaged in challenging behaviours. As part of the professional intervention measures at centres, learners will use structured lesson activity to facilitate children’s social and emotional competence.

Note: This course will be conducted via online learning until further notice.

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Apply knowledge and skills needed to understand and support social emotional development in young children.
  • Develop basic and appropriate strategies to support young children’s social skills and emotional development in the areas of self-regulation, listening, negotiation, and collaborative work.
  • Identify and analyse diverse developmental issues of young children with social emotional difficulties through effective tools.
