About Course
In Singapore, children with additional needs attend both early intervention and regular early childhood programmes. During this course, you will be introduced to the techniques and strategies when working with parents of children with additional needs in early childhood classrooms and the features of effective collaborative working relationships. The course also examines the principles and recommends strategies when working with parents who may be in denial, dissatisfied, non-participative and resistant.
Note: This course will be conducted via online learning.
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- apply understanding of parents’ emotional experiences in their collaborative work;
- identify features of effective working relationships with parents of children with additional needs;
- recognise characteristics and strategies in relation to parents who are in denial;
- examine strategies when working with parents who are non-participative;
- identify conflict resolution strategies when managing anger and resistant; and
- examine the role of the evaluation worksheet in documenting the collaboration.
Upon completion of the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Attainment from the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).

Entry Requirements
This course is for individuals who meet the following criteria:
- Have completed an ECDA-recognised certificate or diploma in early childhood care and education.
- Be ECDA-certified as an L2 teacher.
- Currently employed in a childcare centre registered or licensed with ECDA.
