On 30 July, The Straits Times featured Miss Esther Tan Xuan Ting, a student from NIEC (ITE), who excelled in h­­er Higher Nitec in Early Childhood Education despite significant personal challenges. She was one of three recipients of the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal.  Esther’s family faced financial difficulties when her father was diagnosed with cancer, leading them to rely on savings and financial aid. Despite these hardships, she achieved a perfect GPA and was on the Director’s List for every term from 2022 to 2023. The article also highlighted a milestone of NIEC: the graduation of the first cohort of students from ITE’s enhanced three-year Higher Nitec program, which enabled over 50 students to complete their certification in just two years instead of the usual four.
