Confessions of an Aspiring Early Childhood Educator

NIEC collaborated with ECDA to produce a series of short social media videos featuring authentic “confessions” from post-secondary students. As part of ECDA’s Shape of Tomorrow (SOT) campaign, these videos spotlight the personal journeys and growth of aspiring early childhood educators across NIEC (ITE), NIEC (NP) and NIEC (TP). This initiative also supports NIEC’s outreach efforts in the lead-up to the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) 2026.

In partnership with the campuses, three students — one from each campus — were identified to share meaningful reflections on their experiences in the early childhood sector and their development with NIEC.

The first video in the series features Amin from NIEC (ITE). Initially hesitant and unsure about joining the sector, Amin found confidence through the Boys Club, a supportive community of male early childhood educators, and the encouragement of his mother and lecturers, which reshaped his perception of the profession.

The second video in the series features Premi from NIEC (NP). Although early childhood was not her first choice, Premi eventually found her footing with the encouragement of her supportive peers during her time at NIEC (ITE), eventually entering NIEC (NP). Through her time at NIEC, she discovered her ability to connect with children and developed a genuine passion for early childhood.

The third video in the series features Alicia from NIEC (TP). Alicia’s first practicum experience made her question her decision to join early childhood, but with determination and guidance from her lecturers and peers, she gained confidence and grew into a capable and passionate educator.
