NIEC Faculty, Senior Lecturer Huang Fang, shared insights on good parenting during a segment on Channel 8’s Hello Singapore programme, as reported by 8 World. The segment aired on Wednesday, July 12, focused on parent Wang Shuxian’s challenges in disciplining her 3-year-old daughter.

In her comments, Huang Fang emphasised the importance of setting boundaries to foster children’s growth, considering their unique personalities and parenting styles. She advised parents to establish these limits, refraining from physical punishment or excessive scolding. Instead, children can learn from the consequences of their actions. Huang Fang also recommended that parents create a safe space for children to process emotions during emotional outbursts. Once emotions stabilise, parents can address the issue and find preventative solutions. Striking a balance between discipline and kindness helps create an environment that nurtures children’s self-discipline, responsibility, and problem-solving skills.
