[Translation: Hello Singapore | Interview: The Benefits of Physical Games: Are Active Children More Intelligent?]

On 31 December 2024, Dr. Hong Qiuyun, Lead Lecturer at NIEC (City), was featured on Channel 8’s Hello Singapore from 7pm to 7.15pm. During the interview, she discussed how physical games for parents and children across various age groups can promote learning and support brain development. She highlighted that such games enhance children’s motor skills and body coordination, strengthen bones, and nurture psychological traits like courage and resilience.

Some key questions addressed during the segment included:

  • Some people believe that an active child is a sign of intelligence. Is this true?
  • Is it counterproductive to limit children’s activities for safety?
  • What are the benefits of physical activity for children’s mental health?
  • How to guide children to be more active?

The interview concluded with emphasising that having fun through these activities can be an effective form of learning, helping children acquire skills while simultaneously improving their physical fitness.
