黄雪云:为幼儿创造健康安全环境 (Translation: Collaborating to create a healthy and safe living and learning environment for children)
Ms Ginia Ng, Programme Head, NIEC (City) Campus, shared her insights in an opinion piece published in Lianhe Zaobao on Thursday, 14th September, where she highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in creating a healthy and safe environment for children’s living and learning.
In her article, she underscored the vital role of a safe and nurturing environment in children’s learning and growth. She advocated for contemporary early childhood education to adopt child-centred approaches, aligning with the natural progression of children’s physical and mental development and promoting experiential learning through sensory engagement, play, and exploration.
Additionally, Ms Ginia urged early childhood educators to deepen their understanding of child psychology, foster strong connections with children and parents, and prioritise their well-being to nurture young minds effectively. She called for early childhood education centres to establish supportive working environments, encourage professional development through peer collaboration and safety measures, and provide avenues for teacher support.
She concluded by acknowledging the dedication of preschool educators and highlighted the need for community support to ensure the success of high-quality early childhood education in Singapore.
