[NEW] Drama for Social & Emotional Development in the Preschool Classroom
About Course
This course equips learners with drama strategies such as Tableau, Freeze Frame & Thought Tracking, Mime & Movement, Conscience Alley and Hot Seating to be used in a preschool setting to create a quality learning environment. Learners will learn to promote the five social and emotional competencies from the NEL Framework using drama strategies as an explicit teaching tool. Learners will explore the implementation of a 15-minute drama infused lesson based on a storybook of their choice, incorporating at least two of the strategies and two social and emotional competencies covered in the workshop.
Note: This course will be conducted in-person.
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- explore the use of drama strategies for ‘explicit teaching’/promoting of social and emotional competencies;
- understand and explore the use of Tableau, Freeze Frame & Thought Tracking to develop self-awareness and self-expression in young children;
- understand and explore the use of Mime & Movement to develop self-management & relationship management;
- understand and explore the use of Conscience Alley to develop responsible decision-making in young children to weigh the consequences of their choices; and
- understand and explore the use of Hot Seating to develop social awareness & relationship management and show respect for diversity, appreciate differences by promoting empathy and perspective taking.
Upon completion of the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.

Entry Requirements
This course is for individuals who meet the following criteria:
- be ECDA-certified as an EY2/L1/L2 teacher,
- currently employed in a preschool registered or licensed with ECDA; and
- hold one of the following occupational titles: Beginning Early Years Educator, Early Years Educator, Senior Early Years Educator, Lead Early Years Educator, Beginning Preschool Educator, Preschool Educator, Senior Preschool Educator and Lead Preschool Educator.
