About Course
This short course aims to provide Mother Tongue (Malay) early years and preschool educators with an overview of the updated Nurturing Early Learners (NEL) Framework 2022. Key updates to NEL Framework 2022 and enhanced contents will be covered. Participants will also explore how to nurture Values, Social and Emotional Competencies as well as Learning Dispositions in children (VSLD) during Malay lessons. They will also gain understanding of the five learning areas, application of iTeach Principles and the important role of Malay Language teachers. Participants will co-construct knowledge of how NEL Framework 2022 can be applied in practice to produce quality Mother Tongue Language (MTL) lessons.
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- demonstrate understanding of key messages of NEL Framework 2022 and the key updates;
- identify beliefs about children and the key areas of development essential for character building and lifelong learning: Values, Social and Emotional Competencies and Learning Dispositions (VSLD) in Mother Tongue Language Malay lessons;
- understand the five Learning Areas and the respective learning goals; and
- demonstrate understanding and application of iTeach Principles in Malay Language lessons; and
- analyse the role of Malay Language teachers in nurturing Malay Language for children.
Upon completion of the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Attainment from the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).
Entry Requirements
This course is for individuals who meet the following criteria:
- Have completed an ECDA-recognised certificate or diploma in early childhood care and education.
- Be ECDA-certified as L1/L2 teacher.
- Currently employed in a childcare centre registered or licensed with ECDA.
