[NEW] People, Playscapes and Possibilities: Exploring New Lenses for Outdoor Learning
About Course
In this 2-day course, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills by using the Understanding Action in a Space (UAiS) model to identify and resolve barriers that hinder the possibility of children learning in outdoor spaces. You will use the model to make sense of the individual child, the environments, the people and the culture(s) to help them troubleshoot and provide opportunities for children to participate and enjoy learning outdoors. You will have opportunities to deepen skills when addressing stakeholders’ risk tolerance.
You will also have opportunities to deepen skills in facilitating and stimulating outdoor playscapes using learning in, through, and about the outdoors. In addition, educators can deepen skills in integrating the outdoors in planning curriculum and provide holistic learning experiences that support children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development
Note: This course will be conducted face-to-face.
Learners will be equipped with the knowledge and skills in the following:
- explain that educators, family and other community members have a role in facilitating the potential of the outdoors;
- apply the UAiS model to plan for outdoor learning, maximise the possibilities, and strengthen communications with parents, families, and other stakeholders.;
- understand and reflect on Learning In, About and Through playscapes based on social-cultural considerations of Gibson’s Affordance theory;
- extend understanding of the educator’s role in facilitating and stimulating outdoor experiences for children using the UAiS model;
- examine the current curriculum of their preschools and identify the possibilities for integrating outdoors into their curriculum; and
- extend understanding of the educator’s role in designing and facilitating outdoor learning experiences for children using the UAiS model, Planning Cycle, Outdoor Learning Guide, and National Frameworks.
Upon completion of the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Attainment from the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).

Entry Requirements
This course is for individuals who are ECDA-certified as EY1, EY2, L1 or L2 teachers.
