Responding to and Supporting the Social & Emotional Development of Infants and Toddlers

About Course

Through this course, learners will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and dispositions to support the social-emotional development in infants and toddlers by first understanding the behaviour of very young children.

Developmentally appropriate strategies on helping young children express their feelings; how educators and families can respond to the social and emotional needs of very young children; supporting development of prosocial behaviour, self-regulation skills and delayed gratification will also be covered.

Note: This course will be conducted via online learning format.

 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • understand the key concepts underlying the social and emotional development in infants and toddlers and their emerging behaviours such as self-awareness, stress-related behaviours, self-regulation and delayed gratification;
  • apply Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs in the classrooms and using appropriate strategies to respond to children’s needs;
  • utilise the Wheel of Emotions and apply appropriate strategies to respond to children’s emotional needs;
  • apply strategies to develop prosocial behaviours, empathy and responding appropriately to others; and
  • collaborate with families in supporting the social-emotional development in infants and toddlers
Upon Completion

Upon completion of the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.

Entry Requirements

This course is for individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • have completed an ECDA-recognised certificate or diploma in early childhood care and education;
  • be ECDA-certified as EY1/EY2/L1/L2 teacher; and
  • currently employed in a childcare centre (with infant care) registered or licensed with ECDA.
