[NEW] Self-Regulation and Positive Behaviour in the Early Years
[NEW] Self-Regulation and Positive Behaviour in the Early Years
About Course
This course is designed for infant and early years educators working with children from 0 to 3 years old. It focuses on fostering positive behaviour and emotional regulation through intentional and developmentally appropriate guidance practices. Recognising that behaviour in the early years is a form of communication, this course empowers educators to respond with care and consistency. Participants will explore the common behavioural expressions observed in children aged 0 to 3 and the developmental reasons behind them. This course will highlight how responsive relational caregiving, predictable routines and thoughtfully designed learning environments can reduce behavioural challenges and nurture children’s independence and self-regulation skills. It emphasises the educator’s role in co-regulation, highlighting the importance of emotional regulation and self-care to remain calm and responsive in supporting children. Through a blend of case studies, reflection and collaborative planning, educators will be equipped with practical strategies in guiding behaviour through the creation of emotionally safe environments, along with ways to partner with families to support children.
Note: This course will be conducted in-person.
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- understand common behavioural challenges in children (aged 0 to 3) and the rationale behind them;
- create a supportive and predictable learning environment that promotes self-direction and self-regulation;
- use developmentally appropriate guidance strategies to support positive behaviour; and
- apply effective strategies for communicating and partnering with families to support children’s behaviours.
Upon completion of the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.
