As part of CBD’s media engagement efforts, 8world is featuring NIEC faculty in a five-part video series that offers parents tips on supporting their child’s transition to primary school. New episodes will be released every Wednesday.

In the third episode, aired on 2 April 2025, Dr Hong Qiuyun, Lead Lecturer at NIEC, provided practical strategies for parents to help their children develop time management skills. She discussed the importance of clear, specific instructions for young children and advised against rushing them with commands like “hurry up”. Dr Hong suggested involving children in creating their daily schedules to help them understand task prioritisation and time allocation. She also recommended using visual timers, like hourglasses or digital timers, to help children see time passing and encourage efficiency through playful, time-based challenges. Dr Hong stressed the need for parents to model good time management habits, emphasising patience and thoughtful communication.
